SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM
Our Low-Cost Mobile Spay and Neuter Clinic performed surgeries on more than 1,000 dogs and cats in 2008 and will spay or neuter approximately 2.500 in 2009. Studies show that prevention is far more efficient and cost-effective thatn euthanasia.
FOSTER PROGRAM
This program combats animal abuse, neglect, and unnecessary euthanasia by rescuing hundreds of homeless dogs and cats. We place rescued animals into volunteer foster homes where they are cared for until they find their forever-home and cats & kittens are available for adoption at the Thrift Store. AnimalSave pays for all veterinary care and food & supplies while the animals are in foster care. If you are interested in fostering or adopting a dog or cat, visit our Foster Information page, for details or call Debra at (530) 271-7071 ext. 204 for more information.
LOW INCOME SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD PROGRAM
AnimalSave’s Low Income Food Distribution Program is intended to supplement the food that families (no commercial or government entities) provide their companion animals. This food is not intended to be the sole source of food for your dogs, cats or feral cat colonies. We accept applications for this program from people who live in Nevada County. AnimalSave only provides food for animals that have been spayed or neutered. Applications are available at the AnimalSave Thrift and treasures store, or call 271-7071 for more information. In 2008 AnimalSave spent over $18,000 on food to help feed hungry Nevada County cats, dogs and feral cat colonies. We gave out over 35,000 lbs of pet food. This program gladly accepts donations of money and dog and cat food.
ADOPTION PROGRAM
Choosing to adopt a dog or cat into your life is a very important decision. It is a rewarding experience, but also one that requires a lasting commitment. To adopt an AnimalSave dog or cat you must have the time and resources necessary to properly care for the animal. This includes providing adequate nutrition, security precautions, training and veterinary care that will keep your pet happy healthy and safe. For more information about adopting and the animals available click here.
FERAL (WILD) CAT PROGRAM
A feral cat is either a cat who has lived his/her whole life with little or no human contact and is not socialized, or is a stray cat who was lost or abandoned and has lived away from human contact long enough to revert to a wild state. Feral cats avoid human contact and cannot be touched by strangers. For more information about feral cats, click here.
AnimalSave's Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program pays for feral cat spay/neuter and vaccination. TNR is a proven procedure in which entire colonies of stray and feral cats are humanely trapped, spayed/neutered and vaccinated. This method of population control is more effective than trap-and-kill. Kittens and tame cats can be adopted into good homes. Adult cats too wild to be adopted are returned to their colony. AnimalSave provides humane traps, trapping guidance and can help with transporting animals. For more information about AnimalSave's TNR program call at 271-7071 x206. If you leave a message, someone will return your call promptly.
Barn Homes Needed for Feral Cats...
AnimalSave sometimes has outside, unsocialized cats that would love a barn or garage to call home. They need a dry, safe place to sleep, as well as cat food and water. A truly feral cat will probably never tolerate being petted. However, they do learn to trust and will stay close-by if given adequate time to acclimate. They can provide non-toxic rat and mouse control around your home or farm. They are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and have tested negative for feline leukemia and feline AIDS. If you are interested in giving a couple of feral cats a caring outside home, please call us at 271-7071 ext 206 for more info.
